Is He or Isn't He? Do you think John could really be alive today? Who do you think he is in my story? Is he real? Does he represent something else?
Paul The name John is derived from the Hebrew name Yochanan meaning "YAHWEH is gracious". What a blessing John is as he brings forth profound insights to living as a Christian and understanding the heart of God. John could be any one of us totally surrendered to our loving Father. Thank you Lord for giving us Your GRACE in each chapter of this book through the words and life of John. TAM from Alabama The Holy Spirit. David John is a man of God, filled with the Spirit. In every generation, the seed of the Kingdom will produce the same fruit. It is no coincidence that John (a worker in God's harvest field) shares the same spirit and attributes as John of old, a worker in God's harvest field in his day too. Jim Is John an Anglican Priest? Jeanie Did not our hearts burn within us...? He is like Christ. Dan It is amazing on how the Lord works. Change a few minor details and this would be life story that you are telling. I know a lot of people are concerned on who is John, but I am enjoying the message to much to be concerned about that minor detail. Praise the Lord for the book He has given you. Please let me know when the next chapter appears. Melissa As I read, I began thinking "John" is Jesus, because of the way he appears into the author's life (or our lives) at random, giving us Truth when we need it. I have often thought that Jesus might visit with any of us in person (?) or deliver a message to us through others and we may not even recognize him. As the story progressed, and the author grew in understanding, he began to seek for John sooner, and John seemed to appear in his life more quickly, and not just by chance. Perhaps this is how the Holy Spirit works? Jim I see John as ordinary believer, or at least what we should be. Human, with a relationship with our Father. He laughs, shares God's love, doesn't speak to much trying to force his view upon others and is not on a team but is for the players. He realizes that teams have players that are outstanding and some that want to be and even knows that there are some who could care less but as for himself he is not changed. He only seeks to do as the Father wants. He doesn't condemn but is not afraid to reveal things that are misleading his brothers and sisters. He even allows the Lord to show the truth to them. He doesn't have to get the last word and try to prove he is right. He believes in the ability of the Lord to reveal truth and also believes in the ability of believers to respond and is there when needed to encourage. He doesn't seem to be going around looking for problems for others but allows the Lord to lead him into and around those who are looking for help. Yep, I think he is just what the Father wants us to be. A lot like Him John from Texas John could be alive, but highly unlikely. Living continually for two thousand years in this world would be punishment<smile>. I believe that John is what we all could be if lead by the Holy Spirit. It appears to me that John is a wanderer who is free to go wherever the Lord leads him and do whatever He tells him. We all can't be wanderers, but we can be like John where we are in our lives....listening and responding to the unction of the Holy Spirit. Jeremy I have no idea really, but I know this is God speaking. Catherine from Florida I believe that I know who he is. I believe he is a real living brother. I won't blow his cover though, you can do it when you are good and ready. It is kind of fun, thinking about who he may be. Karen I am still contemplating the issue of whether John is just somebody who has really learned the truth of a deep dependency and relationship with Jesus in our times, or whether he is John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, who somehow never died... This John seems to come across as being an American like Jake, but John in the NT was a Jew. So perhaps the first idea is more true. It doesn't really matter, as I've met different people at different times who simply have such a closer walk with Jesus as to know Him better than I, and I've been blessed by their insight when conversing with them about the Lord and our lives. Elaine from New Mexico It is interesting that you chose John the apostle as your visitor, "the disciple whom Jesus loved". Paul had a visit from the Lord Jesus as did many of the other disciples. You could have entertained an angel unawares, or it could be that you had such an intense experience with the Holy Spirit. It seems your focus in the book is showing the Father heart of God, how much He loves us and that a promise is a promise. If we are truly His, He will lead us and guide us into the truth of His love and set us free from the sin that so easily entangles us. God's heart of love shines forth through Jake's journey, even though at times it doesn't seem that way. So maybe "LOVE" is the key to who John the apostle really is. Pat from Cyberspace Someone who knows Jesus, someone who knows God! Darlene from Louisiana He's God....Well, I''d have to say that cause, he winked at you when you said, he was like John, and John was a lot like God. :-) Pamela from Cyberspace Thank you, and I will be looking forward to the next chapter! Could be John for all things are possible with God, however is most likely one like unto John. <smiles> But this is unofficial for I have not asked Father. Bruce from Cyberspace John... is who we should ALL be! One who deeply knows the person of Jesus and speaks simply, clearly, and lovingly to others in a way that helps them see who He is. He meaningfully and compassionately conveys the awesome, supernatural love that is Christ. It's something I aspire to. How about you? Steve from Cyberspace I really want to believe that he is John. But whether he is or not and whether or not this story actually happened, the lesson is that Father wants a relationship with us, through His Son, that is so very rich in love. This is a relationship that religion can never bring us. John was the only one that stuck beside Jesus clear through the crucifixion. When he laid his head on Jesus's breast it was because he truly loved Him. Among the thousands there was 120. Among the 120 there was 12. Among the twelve there were the three, Peter, James and John. And among the three there was John, the disciple that Jesus loved. Of course, our petty, selfish human love cannot ever begin to compare with the love of God, who died for us while we were yet sinners and sticks closer to us than a brother (found that out the hard way too). We can never be as fair as Him by looking at ourself. It is only as we behold Him that we can be transformed into His image. John must have hungered for God more than all the rest and boy, was he filled. I have always said that I want to be a hundred fold Christian. It is not enough even to be His servant and here "well done". What I want to hear is "Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away". The truly wise virgin knows that the only righteousness that she can ever be clothed in is His righteousness. If I am fair it is because I have beheld Him. Even that is a gift that we cannot earn, only long for as we gaze at Him, as He really is, full of grace and truth. Like Paul, the cry goes forth to "know Him". This is an intimate knowledge of One who we have finally been convinced that He will never ever leave us or forsake us. I really want to thank Jake for helping me to see Him better.
